2014 Oscar Nominations: 'American Hustle' & 'Gravity' Nab 10 Nods Each, '12 Years A Slave' Close Second With 9

2014 Oscar Nominations: 'American Hustle' Leads The Pack With 10 Nominations, 'Gravity' & '12 Years A Slave' Get 9 Each

As the tradition goes, Hollywood is waking up bleary-eyed this morning to see if after months of campaigning, handshakes, personal appearances, interviews and more, their efforts will be rewarded with an Oscar nomination. For many actors, directors, screenwriters and more, it will mean being woken up by their excited agents and managers who will share with them the good news. For others, it will mean sleeping in and waking up in a few hours from, realizing they have sadly missed out. And so, with a fresh pot of coffee, we’re here to let you know how this is all shaping up.

It’s another banner year for David O. Russell, with his con flick “American Hustle” scoring 10 nominations, along with blockbuster crossover “Gravity,” while “12 Years a Slave” came in a close second with 9 nominations. And while Harvey Weinstein’s Oscar players all mostly fizzled, rising hotshot producer Megan Ellison scored a staggering 17 nominations across all of her movies.

The Coen Brothers were completely shut out with “Inside Llewyn Davis” only scoring Best Cinematography and Best Sound Mixing nods. A bummer for such a great movie, and a disappointing result for CBS Films who were running with their first real Oscar contender. Among the surprises were nominations for Christian Bale and Sally Hawkins, with the actors branch giving due recognition to some great performances.

Stay tuned for our full breakdown of the snubs and surprises. The statues will handed out to the winners on March 2nd.
