2018 Golden Globes Awards Predictions: Three Billboards, Lady Bird

The-Handmaid's-Tale

Best Series – Drama

“The Handmaid’s Tale”
“This Is Us”
“The Crown”
“Game of Thrones”
“Stranger Things”

Who will win: “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Who should win: “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Upset: “Game of Thrones”
Lowdown:   I mean, maybe they ignore the “Handmaid’s” train and go with an old favorite like “Game of Thrones,” “The Crown” or “Stranger Things,” but I doubt it.

Will-and-Grace

Best Series – Musical or Comedy

“Black-ish”
“Master of None”
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
“SMILF”
“Will & Grace”

Who will win: “Will & Grace”
Who should win: “Black-ish”
Upset: “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
Lowdown:  Our gut says “Will & Grace” although “Black-ish” and “Mrs. Maisel” could surprise as well.  Even “SMILF” could sneak in and win. It’s a pick ’em.

Elisabeth-Moss, The-Handmaid's-Tale

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama

Claire Foy, “The Crown”
Maggie Gyllenhaal, “The Deuce”
Katherine Langford, “13 Reasons Why”
Elisabeth Moss, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Caitriona Balfe, “Outlander”

Who will win: Elisabeth Moss
Who should win: Elisabeth Moss
Upset: Maggie Gyllenhaal
Lowdown:  Moss has won before and her performance is an incredible achievement.  Gyllenhaal has the movie star qualifications the HFPA love and they could reward Foy for her two seasons on “The Crown” after she won last year (Updated: Somehow forgot she won last year when first published).  Still, Moss is the safe bet…right now.

Sterling-K-Brown, This-Is-Us

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama

Sterling K. Brown, “This Is Us”
Freddie Highmore, “The Good Doctor”
Jason Bateman, “Ozark”
Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul”
Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan”

Who will win: Sterling K. Brown
Who should win: Bob Odenkirk
Upset: Jason Bateman
Lowdown:  Odenkirk is overdue, Highmore is the fresh face, Schreiber has been the good soldier showing up and losing the past four ceremonies and Bateman previously won the Comedy Series category equivalent.  Brown is your reigning Emmy winner and that might simply be enough.

Rachel-Brosnahan, The-Marvelous-Mrs-Maisel

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy

Alison Brie, “GLOW”
Rachel Brosnahan, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
Pamela Adlon, “Better Things”
Issa Rae, “Insecure”
Frankie Shaw, “SMILF”

Who will win: Rachel Brosnahan
Who should win: Pamela Adlon
Upset: Frankie Shaw
Lowdown:  We’re going with the marvelous Ms. Brosnahan, but Shaw or Adlon could take it too.
