If you guys were keeping track, you might have noticed that the last few weeks have been all about the fall festivals. All told, we posted approximately 50 reviews from TIFF and another 30-ish from Venice and Telluride. You would assume that by now that we’re all burnt out on festival coverage. Well, you’re wrong! In fact, we’re counting down the days until the 56th New York Film Festival that starts next Friday. And to stoke our excitement, and hopefully yours as well, is a new “trailer” for the fest.
The trailer does a great job of showing just what makes NYFF so exciting. Sure, plenty of the films being featured have played at other fests by now, but that doesn’t mean that Barry Jenkins’ “If Beale Street Could Talk” or Julian Schnabel’s “At Eternity’s Gate” are any less great and worthy of your time. Plus, what the trailer does a great job of showing is how NYFF has so much more than those big-time festival darlings. There’s the talks, which look to be incredible, as well as the programs.
This year’s Retrospective and Revival sections look incredible, featuring some of the best films of previous decades, as well as honoring some of the late-great Hollywood legends. So, even if you’ve seen some of the headlining films, there’s still plenty left to do over the following couple weeks.
