4.18.14 Update: Sony / Columbia have dated this still untitled X-Mas Movie for December 11, 2015. That’s the same weekend Fox‘s “Alvin and the Chipmunks 4” open and one week before all theaters are dominated by the presence of “Star Wars: Episode VII.“
If one thing has marked the majority of Jonathan Levine‘s films to date, it’s been a desire to blend genres. From the stoner comedy/coming-of-age tale “The Wackness,” to the zombie rom-com “Warm Bodies,” the cancer drama/buddy laugher “50/50,” Levine doesn’t like to take the path already traveled. And he’s reteaming with the stars from the latter film to take on the holiday season.
Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will reunite for an untitled Christmas comedy, directed by Levine, that is already on the fast track. Penned by Levine, the film will tell the story of three best childhood friends (third lead still to be cast), who head to New York City for their annual tradition of going out on Christmas Eve. Sony has already snapped up the movie , with a summer production start on the table, which means they really loved the pitch and see it as a potential big success. And who can really blame them? It’s two stars that are continuing to rise in a big way, with proven chemistry and a premise that reeks of of a holiday hit.
So, see you in theaters on Xmas 2015? We’d put a pretty good bet on it. [THR]
