The official in-competition line-up (or more of it anyhow) for the 60th annual Berlin Film Festival has been announced and aside from Roman Polanski’s “The Ghost Writer,” which was previously announced as premiering at the event, the cine fete has added a few films from Sundance including Michael Winterbottom‘s “The Killer Inside Me” (starring Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba) and the Allen Ginsberg trials film, “Howl” starring James Franco.
Additional Sundance films include Nicole Holofcener’s “Please Give” starring Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt and Catherine Keener, plus Lisa Cholodenko’s “The Kids Are All Right” starring Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska and Mark Ruffalo.
The festival will also provide the world premiere of Noah Baumbach’s “Greenberg” starring Ben Stiller which is due in the U.S. in March and Chinese auteur Zhang Yimou’s (“Raise the Red Lantern,” “Hero,” “Curse of the Golden Flower”) highly anticipated wacky-looking remake of the Coen Brothers “Blood Simple” now evidently titled, “A Woman, A Gun And A Noodle Shop.”
Additional films added to the line-up include Thomas Vinterberg’s “Submarino” (his first film since “A Man Comes Home” in 2007), Benoît Delépine’s “Mamuth” starring Gérard Depardieu, Yolande Moreau, Isabelle Adjani, and Miss Ming and Japanese filmmaker’s Yoji Yamada’s “About Her Brother,” which will be the closing night film.
26 films are playing in competition and the festival will run approximately 51 films in total so far (the complete line-up is expected on Feb 1). The Berlin Film Festival runs February 11 – 21. Some other previous announcements can be found here.
