Script For 'Sherlock Holmes 3' With Robert Downey Jr. And Jude Law Still In The Works

null“Yes, we have a ‘Sherlock 3‘ in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that’s a pretty tall order," is what Robert Downey Jr. said last fall about a possible third entry in the blockbuster sized take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s famous sleuth. And according to producer Lionel Wigram, there’s still plans to get the highest paid actor in the world back to crime solving, Guy Ritchie style.

“We’re working on a ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ script” Wigram told IGN. “I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we’re working on that — it’s quite hard to do.”

Both RDJ and Jude Law are game to reprise their roles, but no word if Ritchie wants to visit that world again. But it sounds like the plan is to get something on the page that’s so good that the original driving forces behind and in front of the camera will want to make it, so I won’t be surprised if Ritchie comes back too. But will audiences want more?

Well, both the first and second films made pretty much the exact same amount of money worldwide, but that said, a lot has changed for RDJ since "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" came out in 2011, and the international marketplace where he shines has only grown more lucrative, which I’m sure WB is more than aware of.

Bonus: listen to a 40 minute podcast talk with Jude Law where he talks about a time travel pitch he gave to Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. for "Sherlock Holmes 3" around the 26 minute mark. Law also reveals he was the original lead actor for Terry Gilliam‘s "The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus."
