I gotta admit, I have pretty much zero interest in a solo Gambit movie, and there are plenty of X-Men characters I’d rather see get their own films first. But 20th Century Fox has now stoked my curiosity with a pretty great choice to get behind the camera.
EW reveals that Rupert Wyatt will direct the Channing Tatum starring "Gambit." The filmmaker has a knack for subverting expectations, turning out the excellent "Planet Of The Apes," and quickly quieting any doubters who didn’t think that property had a chance of being exciting or interesting. And while there are some of my colleagues at The Playlist who might prefer Wyatt do something in a non-blockbuster mode, the middling reception to the (underrated) "The Gambler" has probably made it a bit more difficult to try and mount something without explosions.
"Gambit" opens on October 7, 2016.
