Alicia Vikander & Bette Midler To Join Julianne Moore In Gloria Steinem Biopic Directed By Julie Taymor

A year ago, we learned that actress Julianne Moore had signed on to play the famous feminist and writer Gloria Steinem in a biopic directed by Julie Taymor. At the time, we didn’t know much about the production, but now, Deadline is reporting that more actresses have signed up to star in the film, which will chronicle the entire life of Steinem, and how her family’s nomadic ways influenced her life as an activist.

The report says that Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander is in negotiations to star in the film “The Glorias: A Life on the Road.” Vikander will play the titular feminist from the ages of 20 until 40. Of course, the means that Moore will take over the role of Steinem in her later years. Joining Vikander in the cast is Lulu Wilson, who will play Gloria Steinem in her younger years. Also joining the cast is legendary actress Bette Midler, in an undisclosed supporting role.

“The Glorias: A Life on the Road” is based on Steinem’s memoir “My Life on the Road,” and follows her journey to becoming an equal rights activist and her work as a journalist and campaigner. The film is adapted by writer Sarah Ruhl and will be directed by the aforementioned Taymor, who is best known for her work on the film “Frida.”

Vikander, of course, won an Oscar for her role in the 2015 film “The Danish Girl.” She’s also well-known for her roles in the Alex Garland sci-fi thriller “Ex Machina,” as well as the action films “The Man from UNCLE,” “Jason Bourne,” and this year’s “Tomb Raider,” which she starred in.

Lulu Wilson is the young actress that is probably best known for her work in “Annabelle: Creation.” However, most recently, Wilson has been featured in breakout roles in HBO’s “Sharp Objects” and Netflix’s recent horror hit “The Haunting of Hill House.”

There’s no release date set for “The Glorias: A Life on the Road,” as of yet.
