Branching out from “The Office,” comic actor Ed Helms is set to star in an untitled comedy for Warner Bros. From a story idea by Helms and writing partner Jake Flescher, Helms would play one of three Civil War re-enactors sent back in time with an African American professor of history who is strongly uncomfortable with their interests. The project is being produced by Steve Carrell’s Carousel label, but no further details have been announced. Carousel also has “Get Smart 2” and the potential co-starring vehicle with Tina Fey “Date Night” on its roster, so there’s a chance they could become major players in the bigscreen comedy field, but it would be more cool if they made smaller budgeted movies starring guys from “The Office” and “The Daily Show” not involving the likes of “Date Night” director Shawn Levy, who should really get hit by a bus sometime soon.
