'Alien: Covenant' Will Be Set 10 Years After 'Prometheus'

PrometheusHere’s what we know so far about Ridley Scott‘s "Prometheus" followup: it will star Michael Fassbender (in dual roles) and Katherine Waterston, the xenomorph will appear in some fashion, and according to the official synopsis, the story will follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, who discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. But space travel takes a long time, which is why this next little nugget makes a whole lot of sense.

Chatting with Collider, "The Martian" costume designer Janty Yates, who will next be working with Scott on ‘Covenant,’ revealed that movie is set “10 years in the future beyond ‘Prometheus.’ ” Hmm…that likely explains why Noomi Rapace‘s role is said to be "minor."

“[It’s] not so much of a spacesuit movie,” Yates teased. “There are two different spacesuits in it. We are only carrying on one look from ‘Prometheus,’ which is with David."

So, a couple bits of new intel to keep you guessing. Production on the film will kick off in early 2016 and hit theaters on October 6, 2017. [via Bloody Disgusting]
