Where's 'Mad Max: Fury Road'? There's Still Three Weeks Of Additional Shooting To Go This Fall

Tom Hardy Mad Max Fury Road

The “Mad Max” franchise has never been one suited to swift and easy productions, with much of the films’ narrative devoted to high-speed chases across dystopian deserts with unbearable conditions. When it came to the series’ fourth installment, Mad Max: Fury Road,” with Tom Hardy as the titular lead, they were better prepared and came in slightly over schedule on a July-November production last year. But as time has passed without news of a clear release date, we’ve recently learned there’s still a bit more apocalyptic carnage to be shot.

After completing the initial six-month shoot across African and Namibia, ‘Fury Road’ director George Miller will be back in Sydney in November for three more weeks of “addition shooting.” The film, which follows Max as he encounters a war rig manned by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) and her posse, will reportedly head back into production with its main cast on board. Casting calls have also confirmed a need for “odd, idiosyncratic faces” and “slim builds” to match its supporting roles, including an Aboriginal elder.

We first got a glimpse of Hardy in character back in December on a crew gift photo confirmed by WB as the real deal, but let’s hope Miller hasn’t found overwhelming troubles in the editing bay to demand some major narrative restructuring. We’ll have to find out when the film, which co-stars Nicholas HoultHugh Keays-ByrneZoe KravitzNathan Jones and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, is (tentatively, for now) released some time in 2014.
