It feels like a lifetime has passed since “Iron Man 2” hit theaters, but it was actually just over four months ago. How time flies. While the film served more as an extended preview for “The Avengers” than a standalone film, it wasn’t without its charms.
With the DVD and BluRay set to hit next week, details on some of the features have apparently been leaking. The Daily Blam! reports that the latest news involves director Jon Favreau discussing some of the Easter Eggs hidden in the film’s scene with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). You may recall, as they spoke, there was a number of digital screens around displaying different world locations. Looks like it was more than just window dressing for the scene; we’ll let Favreau explain:
“[The first is] from “The Incredible Hulk”, which means [“Iron Man 2”] took place before “The Incredible Hulk.” If you look you can see the the crater on the other monitor, that’s the “Thor” thing. That’s where the hammer was recovered. This is just a geek heaven here. “And if you think that anything on these monitors is not something we at Marvel didn’t talk about for hours – you are crazy! See, there is a map up there, so… if you look at those maps, each one of those locations corresponds to something in the Marvel Universe. I’m not supposed to say that. “And if you look on each one, and I know what they mean, but I’m not gonna say it, but I’m gonna say this: Two of them relate to “The First Avenger: Captain America,” one of them relates to “Thor.” The one in Africa relates to Black Panther.”
Cue geek brains exploding. Could this mean a Black Panther movie is on the way? Maybe. But it’s a nice way for Marvel to have their bases covered to introduce the character in whatever capacity into the carefully plotted and elaborately planned Marvel cinematic universe. At the very least, the character should pop up in “The Avengers” in some capacity.
“Iron Man 2” hits DVD/BluRay on September 28th.
