Adele To Sing 'Skyfall' Theme At The Oscars

nullIt's been a good year for the James Bond franchise. Celebrating fifty years, the series has never seemed more vibrant, with "Skyfall" becoming a billion dollar earner and the biggest 007 entry of all time. That feat hasn't been ignored by the Academy, with the movie picking up five (below-the-line) nominations and the franchise to be honored via a tribute segment as part of the telecast next month. But there's even more to get shaken not stirred about.

U.K. sensation Adele has been booked to sing the Oscar nominated "Skyfall" theme during the show. From a demographic and audience standpoint, this is a major coup for the show, booking one of the most popular artists on the planet, it will not only will it be her first television appearance since the Grammys last year, but the first time she's performed the "Skyfall" theme live. Good work, producers. Now the question is whether or not the other Best Original Song contenders will get to perform their numbers as well, and with Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" nominated (and with him being a big showtunes fan) and "Les Miserables" a massive box office success, we'd wager it's a pretty good bet we'll be seeing five performances through the evening instead of a medley.

The Oscars will air on February 24th so tune in to find out if Adele will take home her first Oscar too. [Deadline]
