Some two years in the making and add another two for development (at least), Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity" has finally scored an October 4, 2013 release date. Originally pegged for a November 2012 release, Warner Bros. took it off last year's calendar for unspecified reasons, but most presumed this was due to the VFX-heavy nature of the film that was shot completely in soundstages and in 3D. Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, "Gravity" has been a long time coming and so much so it's taken on mythic proportions in some corners fo the blogosphere that have declared it a kind of Kubrick-ian return. It probably doesn't hurt that Cuarón hasn't made a movie since 2006's "Children of Men." Six years between movies will create legend and buzz.

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
We read an early draft of the script ages ago and while somewhat of an actioner, it'll be interesting to see how much it's changed since then. That weekend at the beginning of October, "Gravity" will go up against "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," Relativity's "Paranoia," the Vince Vaughn comedy "The Delivery Man" and Fox's "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (3D)."
