Revenge of the Creepy Dolls: 'Annabelle Comes Home' & 'Child's Play' [The Discourse Podcast]

Welcome to the very first episode of The Discourse Podcast, formally known as The Playlist Podcast!

Why the rebrand, you might ask? Aside from having a nice ring to it and a name to differentiate ourselves from the other wonderful shows on the podcast network, the show has morphed over the last year from merely Rodrigo and I (with occasional input from fellow Playlisters) discussing the big movie of the moment to a rotating door of diverse guests with differing perspectives, weighing in on not just the major film releases of any given week, but television, streaming, and the all-around wave of change in the way we consume our media.

As with the change in perspectives and discussion, The Discourse felt like the next logical evolution in the podcast. And on this first episode, I’m joined by Matt Donato (/Film, Atom Insider, among many, many others) to dive into a double-feature of creepy doll mayhem. We start with “Annabelle Comes Home” – the third film in the “Annabelle” series and the seventh film overall in “The Conjuring” Cinematic Universe – before pivoting to a discussion about “Child’s Play,” the remake of the 1988 Tom Holland film, which leads us to a lengthy and thoughtful discussion of the Chucky series overall, as well as the state of horror remakes as a whole.
