First 'Aquaman' Trailers Rises From The Depths Of The Mighty Sea

“Aquaman” is here! But first, where does one begin with the DCEU? It’s such a sh*t show—having just changed management again, and essentially rid itself of its top creatives once more, now Geoff Johns, who basically replaced Zack Snyder. And every few movies they seem to clear the decks when another one of their movie bombs (Charles Roven, the man behind the Nolan Batman films who also produced “Batman V. Superman” and “Suicide Squadis long gone too).

But right now, Warner Bros. and DCEU want to forget the past (especially “Justice League“) and look to the future and that future is “Aquaman.” Attendees at CineEurope were given their first taste of the “Aquaman” trailer this week and now it’s finally online.

Directed by James Wan (“The Conjuring” “Insidious: Chapter 2,” “Furious 7“), Aquaman has been in the works for years and began principle photography in May of 2017.

On the eve of its trailers, the new DC Films brass started to try and drum up buzz. “James has done an incredible job with his team,” says Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich told EW this week. “The film is taking you to a different place and imagining the underwater world in a way you haven’t seen before.”

One of the film’s producers, Peter Safran, said the movie’s, “got the great action you expect, it’s got a lot of great humor, it works on so many levels … it’s a testament to James’ unique vision. I think it’s an extraordinary step in DC Universe that sets it on the right path.”

Hmmm, the right path. What is that exactly for DC? Anything that’s not a flop, frankly.

In addition to Momoa, the cast is pretty stacked with William Dafoe, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman(!), and Michael K. Williams. While James Wan has dipped his toe in big-budget filmmaking before with “Furious 7“, this seems an interesting departure from his usual mid-budget horror films.

Starring Jason Momoa as the titular character, “Aquaman” also features Amber Heard as Mera; Willem Dafoe as Vulko; Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren as Black Manta; with Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanna.

“Aquaman” opens on December 21, 2018. Does the trailer hit the right beats and notes the producers are promising? Weigh in below.

Wonder Woman 1984” was also at Comic-Con, no footage was released and apparently what they presented was really brief anyhow. Of course, they didn’t explain how Chris Pine is still alive, but you can watch the Comic-Con panel below.
