'Archer' Will End After Season 10

It was hard to imagine when “Archer” first started on FX, where the animated spy spoof would go seven seasons later. In fact, it was hard to imagine the series getting that far, as enjoyable and hilarious as it was. Could the riff on the realm of espionage movies and television really find new things to say as the years went on? Well, much credit to creator Adam Reed and the team of writers for putting as much focus on the characters and expanding narrative as the deliciously filthy one-liners, because it has been a wild ride to see Archer and his pals go from secret agents to drug runners to launching their own private investigation firm in season seven. But alas, the end is near(-ish).

Speaking on Modern Film School’s “Murmur” podcast, Reed revealed that the show has three more seasons left before it says farewell.

“The plan is to end Archer after season 10. I don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan—to do 8, 9, and 10 and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes, and then wind it up.…,” he said. “I was gonna end it after 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up. So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they’re gonna be different from each other.”

So some sweet and sour news for “Archer” fans; there’s more coming, but soon we’ll have to find something else to fill the hole (phrasing) in our TV viewing schedule. But remember, there’s still also the prospect of a live-action “Archer” movie, so fingers crossed the show finds a feature length future.
