No More Batfleck: Ben Affleck Literally Says, "I'm Not Batman."

Once more for the people in the back: Ben Affleck is finished playing Batman. When we covered this recently, we said, “Don’t be surprised if Affleck gives a formal interview about being out as the Batman soon which should clear things up for fans who might still be hoping and praying he’s sticking around as Batman in the current DCEU (not happening).” We hate to gloat when we’re right, but that interview was last night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where the actor-director shared his reasoning behind abandoning the cowl.

Though Affleck’s tweet from last month made it pretty obvious he was done with Gotham City, the fact that he hadn’t said the actual words left some DC fans with a glimmer of hope. In the interview with pal Jimmy Kimmel, Affleck said, “I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn’t come up with a version—I couldn’t crack it and so I thought it’s time to let someone else to take a shot at it.” Echoing the sentiment in his previous tweet praising “The Batman” director Matt Reeves, he continued, “They got some really good people, so I’m excited.”

Things get sillier in there (namely, with “Kimmel” regular Guillermo appearing as Robin in a goodbye ceremony), but Affleck ends things by simply saying, “I’m not Batman.” With two turns as the Caped Crusader in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League,” he still outranks George Clooney and Val Kilmer, so that’s something to be proud of, we guess. Reeves still hasn’t cast his new Batman, so fans can continue to speculate on who gets to drive the Batmobile next.
