Ben Affleck Says DC Movies Are "More Mythic" And Less Glib Than Marvel Movies

Batman v. SupermanNot just content to understand that DC and Marvel movies are different, there are certain fans who debate the merits of one blockbuster brand being better than another. And that means actors, directors, and executives also have to make the case for their projects as they get drawn into the conversation, when we should really just be thankful that Hollywood is at least trying make the onslaught of comic book movies to come at least have a little variety. Regardless, Ben Affleck, a.k.a. Batman, is the latest to add his voice to what makes DC movies standout from the Marvel-verse, and it will undoubtedly spark more heated talk.

“It is more mythic, it is more grand in that way, and it is a little more realistic,” he told EW (print edition). “Just by their nature, these films can’t be as funny or as quick or as glib as Marvel movies.”

Basically, DC movies are more "serious" than Marvel flicks, according to Affleck, and he’s not incorrect. There is something of a lighter touch in the Marvel movies, and even when things got as intense as they did in "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" (for example), a quip or one-liner wasn’t too far away. And by comparison, "Man Of Steel,"  carried with it a bit more gravitas. So does that make one better and another worse? Not particularly, they are just different approaches.
