'Billions' Season 5 Trailer: A Vicious Rivalry Is Reignited

Billions” on Showtime already has a heavyweight cast among its members, but in season five, two more heavy hitting character actors are joining the ensemble: Julianna Margulies (“The Good Wife”) and Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “Ant-Man”). Created by showrunning writer/directors Brian Koppelman and David Levien (“Rounders,” “Solitary Man”), “Billions,” in case you’re unaware is drama about power politics in the world of New York high finance.

Paul Giamatti plays U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and the brilliant, ambitious hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) are on an explosive collision course, with each using all of his considerable smarts, power and influence to outmaneuver the other. The series also stars Asia Kate Dillon, Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin and Jeffrey DeMunn. Over the years, the two enemies have had truces, and moments of ceasefire, but in season five, given the events of season four, all bets are off and the rivalry is back on, or about to be.

Koppelman told EW this week that Rhoades and Axe are “at the brink,” their feud about to reignite, and new enemies about to draw their swords when the two are vulnerable. “They have to find a way to recapture ground lost, and gain high ground for the battles they’re about to face.”

In season five of BILLIONS, Bobby Axelrod (Lewis) and Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) see their vicious rivalry reignited, while new enemies rise and take aim. Social impact pioneer Mike Prince (Stoll) poses a true threat to Axe’s dominance, and Chuck feuds with a formidable district attorney. Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon) is forced back to Axe Capital, where they must fight to protect their employees and their assets. Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff) reevaluates her loyalties and forges surprising new alliances that put her at odds with both Chuck and Axe. This season, the struggle for power becomes a struggle for survival, and all characters must adapt or risk extinction. Margulies will play Catherine Brant, an Ivy League sociology professor and bestselling author.
