Infiltrate The Hate: Role Playing Undercover In 'BlacKkKlansman' & 'The Captain' [Adjust Your Tracking]

Welcome back Spike? Shit, he never left…

On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I are excited to big up the one and only Spike Lee, a filmmaker we don’t deserve but we obviously still need. His latest release, the thrilling/funny/messy/didactic “fo’ real shit” “BlacKkKlansman,” just opened last weekend to solid returns and audience responses. It’s being widely discussed in film circles, for good reason. (Read our review from the Cannes premiere.) We make time for a much smaller release, German film “The Captain” which is also based on a true story and also includes some bizarre role playing but overlaid with an existential dread that’s as palpable as the gorgeous black and cinematography. Both films are challenging and complex but absolutely worth wrestling with, and dare I say, finding entertainment in them.

LISTEN: Finding lots of overlap in “Blindspotting” and “Menace II Society

Look out this week for another new episode of AYT, as we come of age (yet again) and put ourselves into a more feminine perspective with indie releases “Madeline’s Madeline” and “Skate Kitchen.” Those films are slowly rolling out to arthouse theaters this month and soon after on VOD. Follow close, they’re both totally worth seeking out.
