Bong Joon-ho Pens "A Word Of Pleading" To Cannes Critics About Not Posting 'Parasite' Spoilers

It appears that the Russo Brothers have unknowingly started a trend. After the directors of the massive superhero blockbuster “Avengers: Endgame” posted their second letter begging fans to not spoil the film after seeing it in theaters, many thought we reached peak levels of spoiler culture. But alas, the fear of spoilers is even encroaching on our beloved Cannes Film Festival and the upcoming Bong Joon-ho film, “Parasite.”

In an open letter to festival attendees and, especially, critics, the filmmaker behind such work as “Snowpiercer,” “The Host,” and “Okja” pleads with folks to not spoil the twists of his latest drama.

The director agrees that film fans are used to avoiding websites, social media, and loud theater discussions when trying to stay spoiler-free. And he also states that his latest drama, “Parasite,” which follows two families from very different walks of life, isn’t dependent on a big twist or Thanos-like snap at the end. That being said, he hopes that the “audience will experience bated breath at every turn of the story, small and big, that they will be surprised and sucked into the film with burning emotion at every moment.”

So, Bong says that he wants critics to please avoid posting anything about the film’s story, after one particular point in the film. (Note: we’re not even going to post the particular moment he describes, but you can read it in the letter below, if you’re interested.)

“Your considerate refrain will be a wonderful gift to the audience and the team that made this film possible,” wrote the director.

He concluded, “I bow my head and implore your once more – please refrain from spoilers.”

There’s no official release date for “Parasite” in the US, as of now, but we should be hearing more about the distribution strategy after the upcoming Cannes debut.
