Bong Joon Ho's 'Parasite' Storyboards Will Be Collected & Released As A Graphic Novel

Okay, so you’re a massive Bong Joon Ho fan and you’ve seen “Parasite” numerous times already. You might have seen it during its original theatrical run. Then maybe you caught the black and white re-release and/or the recent IMAX showings. And you’re probably incredibly excited for the upcoming Criterion Collection release. But your “Parasite” experience won’t be complete without the new book that is soon to be released.

According to NEON is set to release Bong’s detailed storyboards, along with dialogue and script notes, as a de facto “Parasite” graphic novel through Grand Central Publishing sometime this summer. As you may already know, Bong Joon Ho is known for his hand-drawn, detailed storyboards and when you put together all of the ones he drew for “Parasite,” it turns into what amounts to a 300-page graphic novel.

“Director Bong’s illustrations share the illuminating power of his writing and directing, making the Parasite graphic novel a gorgeous, riveting read and fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of one of the best films of the year,” says Senior Editor Wes Miller, who acquired the graphic novel for Grand Central Publishing. “The result is an all-new way to experience the vertiginous delights and surprises of Bong Joon Ho’s deeply affecting, genre-defying story.”

In addition to the storyboards, the book will include a foreword from Bong about his experience creating the film, as well as dialogue, stage, and camera directions, all translated to English from Korean. Clearly, this is going to be one of the more extensive script/storyboard books to be published in recent memory.

And honestly, if you’ve seen “Parasite,” you know that Bong labored extensively over each shot in the film, making the idea of comparing the final product to the storyboard that much more interesting. The filmmaker is at the top of his game right now and cinephiles are always looking for all the behind-the-scenes goodies that help paint the full picture of the film, including the process leading up to production.

There’s no official release date announced for the “Parasite” book, but it’s expected to be released this summer.
