Has any movie moved as quickly from production (this summer), to completion? Because “Borat 2,” seemingly now titled “Borat: Subsequent MovieFilm,” and not the reportedly ridiculously long title recently rumored, is evidently putting quick shooters like Spielberg and Ridley Scott to shame. Yes, “Borat 2” already has a trailer and now a release date: Amazon Studios will release the film on October 23.

A recent WGA filing—since taken down—revealed the title of the “Borat” sequel was “Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit,” but that’s proven false. The official title is, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.“

Sacha Baron Cohen once again stars as Borat Sagdiyev, a fictitious Kazakh journalist who—at least in “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”— traveled through the United States to make a documentary which features real-life interactions with Americans. The character came from Baron Cohen’s TV series “Da Ali G” show. The original ‘Borat’ film was directed by Larry Charles (the co-creator of “Seinfeld”), with a story co-written by Todd Phillips, but it doesn’t look like any of them are involved. In fact, it’s even unclear who directed “Borat: Subsequent MovieFilm,” but many are assuming Sacha Baron Cohen for now.
It was recently announced that Amazon Studios, who acquired the rights, presumably from Disney, since the original film came out via 20th Century Fox, was releasing the film and releasing it before the election (politically-minded Sacha Baron Cohen thinks will help change the course of the election?). And yep, will end of October certainly fits that bill.

Update: “Borat: Subsequent MovieFilm,” is directed by Jason Woliner (NBC‘s “Parks and Recreation,” and Comedy Central‘s “Nathan for You” and “Jon Benjamin Has A Van”) and credited to a whole slew of writers: Sacha Baron Cohen & Anthony Hines & Dan Swimer & Peter Baynham & Erica Rivinoja & Dan Mazer & Jena Friedman & Lee Kern.
