Can 'Low Winter Sun' Replace 'Breaking Bad'? Watch The Trailer For The New AMC Series Starring Mark Strong

nullIn case you’ve been living under a rock, or were somehow unaware, we hate to break it you: “Breaking Bad” is done this summer. The acclaimed, hit series wraps up the fate of Walter White in just a few months time, and after that, AMC will be left with a considerably big hole in their schedule that they’ll need to fill. Could “Low Winter Sun” be the next show we’re all going to be talking about?

The first trailer for the contender is here, and we have to say, we definitely like what we see. A remake of the British series, Mark Strong reprises his role for the American do-over that’s set in Detroit, and follows a detective who gets pulled into the underworld after his partner is murdered. So yes, it seems like it’s playing within moral gray areas as “Breaking Bad” did, but perhaps most crucially? Mark Strong just plain rules. The actor has been a journeyman, appearing in more movies than we can count and always making his presence felt, and here it looks like he very much owns the part (no doubt helped by having taken it on before).

Need evidence that this guy can easily lead a series? After the trailer, check out the CIA meeting sequence from “Zero Dark Thirty.” It hasn’t been talked about much, but that scene essentially lifts off the second half of the movie, and it’s all thanks to Strong who walks into the room and literally delivers a speech that sets up the dramatic stakes. It’s fantastic stuff. Ten weeks of Strong on the small screen? Yep, we’re in.
