'Cherry' Exclusive Music: Listen To A Track From Henry Jackman's Score For The Russo Brothers' Film

Outside of a few other composers (looking at you, Hans Zimmer), you could argue that hardly anyone has written music for more massive blockbusters than Henry Jackman. From superhero films (“Captain America: Civil War”) to massive apes (“Kong: Skull Island”) to family-friendly comedies (“Detective Pikachu”), Jackman’s name in the credits normally means the film is a box office blockbuster. But for his next film, “Cherry,” Jackman’s music accompanies a drama about PTSD, opioid abuse, and crime. This is a far cry from Captain America and King Kong. But it does star Spider-Man, aka Tom Holland.

“Cherry” tells the story of a young guy that comes back from serving in the military with untreated PTSD. This mental illness drives the man to begin to abuse opioids, which then leads to a life of crime. All of this from the directors who brought you the last two ‘Avengers’ films, Joe and Anthony Russo. And with “Cherry” coming to Apple TV+ next month and the film getting all sorts of awards buzz, we’re happy to give our readers an exclusive track from the score of the film, composed by the aforementioned Jackman.

“‘Cherry’s’ soundscape never deviates from the core idea of emulating the internal,” said Jackman about his score. “It’s music that ebbs and flows depending on the emotions and mental state of the main character grounding the film in Cherry’s subjective experience.”

The Russo Brothers added, “This is Henry’s most sublime work. Beautiful, poignant, riotous, devious. Breathtaking in its ability to manifest such complex tones, while unifying them at the same time. He’s truly a master of the craft.”

And judging by the track we have to share, “What I’m Trying to Say Is…” Jackman has branched out quite a bit from what you might be expecting given his previous work on films like ‘Civil War,’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and even last year’s “Extraction.”

“Cherry” is arriving on Apple TV+ on March 12. And to help you prepare for that film, you’ll be able to stream the entire score from Jackman, courtesy of Lakeshore Records, exclusively on Apple Music beginning on February 26.
