Christina Applegate Confirmed For 'Anchorman 2'

nullAfter Will Ferrell dressed up as Ron Burgundy and announced that "Anchorman 2" was a reality (sending an army of "Anchorman" fans into hysterics), the first plot detail that co-writer/director Adam McKay revealed was that it might contain a custody battle and, possibly, "bowling for dollars." The former would assume that Christina Applegate was set to return as Veronica Corningstone to have some kind of custody battle with Burgundy, yet when the teaser poster and two teaser trailers arrived, only Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner appeared. Not to worry, Applegate will be returning as well.

Koechner was the first to spill the news, telling E! Online that Applegate was a "yes" to return, and then the actress' reps confirmed the news to Celebuzz. Koechner also confirmed that the sequel would be "set around the advent of the 24-hour news channel," something McKay revealed to be true in April. "All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you're talking about diversity and the Action News team, that's always fun to deal with," said McKay at the time.

McKay and Ferrell are currently scripting "Anchorman 2," with production starting next February. No specific release date has been confirmed, but McKay has said that it's conceivable to expect the sequel next Christmas (as the "2013" of the teaser poster would imply) or, perhaps, even spring or summer 2014.

As the script stage continues, Koechner had one request: "I’d like to see Ron and Champ in bed," the actor joked. "Did you see the first film? Champ’s got a crush on Ron, clearly. So the full evolution of that would be Ron and Champ in bed." That, or maybe Champ is the one with the massive erection this time around.
