'The Curse of La Llorona' Trailer: 'The Conjuring 3' Director Shows How He Got The Gig With This Chilling Horror

The terrifying trailer for “The Curse of La Llorona” is here just in time for Halloween. This film has already garnered a spooky reputation with stories of the set being haunted during filming. According to the stars and director, there were occurrences of unbreakable things suddenly breaking, visits from spirits, and a very eerie (potentially actually haunted) house.

The film is based on real-life Mexican folklore of a mother who drowned her two young sons in a fit of jealous madness after finding her husband in the arms of a younger woman. She is cursed to roam the Earth looking for other children to snatch away and call her own. With that in mind, check out the official synopsis below.

“In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm.  Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.”

The film is produced by horror icon James Wan, the director behind franchises like “Saw,” “Insidious,” and “The Conjuring.” Michael Chaves will make his feature directorial debut with “The Curse of La Llorona.” He and Wan will work together again as producers and director, respectively, on the upcoming “Conjuring 3” movie. Wan had nothing but praise for the newcomer director calling him “a perfect fit to direct the next ‘Conjuring’ film” thanks to his “ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares.”

Starring in “The Curse of La Llorona” are Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, Patricia Velasquez, Marisol Ramirez, Sean Patrick Thomas, Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen, and Roman Christou.

“The Curse of La Llorona” opens next year on April 19, 2019.
