If there is a subgenre of documentaries that seems to be almost as popular as true-crime in today’s society, it’s cult docs. People love to hear about life inside of cults and what it takes to leave the scary groups. Well, thanks to the combined efforts of Dakota Johnson and Riley Keough, we’re going to get a glimpse at a situation like that in the upcoming series, “Cult Following.”

As reported by Deadline, Dakota Johnson and Riley Keough are set to star in and produce a new limited series titled “Cult Following,” based on the memoir from author Bexy Cameron. The true story follows a young woman (Johnson) that is part of the Children of God cult. After escaping the clutches of the group, she goes off with her friend (Keough) to travel around the country and find other people such as herself and tell the stories of what it’s like to live in a horrible group such as that.
“It has been a dream of ours since we launched TeaTime to collaborate with Riley and Gina at Felix Culpa,” said Johnson and producing partner Ro Donnelly. “We are beyond thrilled to join forces and friendship to bring Bexy’s remarkable story to the screen. Alongside Platform One, we look forward to adding the final top notch collaborators to the team.”
“We are so thrilled to bring Bexy’s incredible story to television alongside our dear, beautiful friends at TeaTime, Dakota and Ro,” added Keough and her producing partner Gina Gammell. “We couldn’t dream of better collaborators for this. Thank you Platform One, we can’t wait for this adventure.”
As the project is still in its infancy, it’s unclear the specifics about who might direct the series, and of course, where we might see “Cult Following” land. Obviously, this is the type of show that has “streaming service” written all over it, so it wouldn’t be surprising if we see someone like Netflix, Amazon, or Apple snatch it up.
