Darren Aronofsky's Comic Book Project Is 'Noah's Ark'; Concept Art & Video Revealed

Remember when “Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky recently said he was working on a comic book as a means to hopefully fund a screenplay or at least use it as a proof of concept? “We’re doing a comic book of a script that’s really hard to make and we’re going to do a comic version first and see what happens,” he said. We, and many others, assumed the comic book would be his long gestating adaptation of the “Noah’s Ark,” story.

Well, guess what? We were all right. The in-progress comic book is indeed his vision for what sounds like an epic biblical tale. Bleeding Cool has dug up images and video from the upcoming graphic novel called, “Noah,” drawn by Canadian artist Nico Henrichon. More image below.

Back in the day, Aronofsky described the concept as one with eco-friendly themes and boasting a massive scope.

“It’s a great script and it’s huge. And we’re starting to feel out talent. And then we’ll probably try and set it up… It’s the end of the world and it’s the second most famous ship after the Titanic. So I’m not sure why any studio won’t want to make it…It’s a really cool project and I think it’s really timely because it’s about environmental apocalypse which is the biggest theme, for me, right now for what’s going on on this planet. So I think it’s got these big, big themes that connect with us. Noah was the first environmentalist. He’s a really interesting character. Hopefully they’ll let me make it. Noah was the first person to plant vineyards and drink wine and get drunk. It’s there in the Bible – it was one of the first things he did when he reached land. There was some real survivor’s guilt going on there. He’s a dark, complicated character.”

Sounds great. Will someone actually fund it though? You know we — and many other Aronofsky devotees — would love to see it, but we’re assuming only a major studio would be able to fund it. 20th Century Fox or Fox Searchlight where Aronofsky has a picture deal? Maybe if “The Wolverine” goes over like gangbusters? Put all those 6,000-calories-a-day into Hugh, you owe Darren as much.
