Polka-Dot Man Fans Rejoice! 'Ant-Man's' David Dastmalchian Cast As Villain In James Gunn's 'The Suicide Squad'

First, we have to say that we love David Dastmalchian. He’s an incredible actor that is able to morph into whatever character he’s asked to become in a film. Whether it’s the creepiest of creepers in “Prisoners” or the hilarious Russian sidekick in the two ‘Ant-Man’ films, Dastmalchian is aces in just about everything he lends his talents to. But there’s really no way to talk about his next role without a bit of a snicker.

You see, according to THR, Dastmalchian is sticking to superhero films for his next venture, but he’s switching to the DC side of the spectrum, working with James Gunn on the upcoming ‘The Suicide Squad.” That alone is exciting news for fans of the actor and the supposed reboot. However, the giggles come when you learn that Dastmalchian is set to play the Polka-Dot Man.

Yep. You read that right. The Polka-Dot Man.

Look, Gunn has made a name for himself by turning a talking raccoon and a tree into some of the best characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we shouldn’t be concerned by the prospect of the filmmaker tackling a kooky-sounding superpowered character. But yet, there’s something about this one that worries us.

Polka-Dot Man, or what he’s known as to his friends, Abner Krill, is a villain that loves dots. Beginning his villainous career in Gotham City, Polka-Dot Man made a name for himself as the guy that loves to perform criminal activities that revolve around spots and dots. Spot Carpet Cleaning getting robbed? Probably Polka-Dot Man.

It’s clear that Krill has an affinity for dots, as his superhero costume is littered with them. But those dots actually serve a purpose, and aren’t just there because he has a love of haute couture. He has the ability to rip the polka-dots from his suit and use them in various ways, as saws or as ways to conceal other tools and weapons.

Again, Gunn is the guy to trust with someone as silly as Polka-Dot Man, and Dastmalchian is probably one of the best choices for such an odd character, but until we see it for ourselves, there’s going to be something inherently silly and ridiculous about this addition to the ‘Squad.

“The Suicide Squad” hits theaters on August 6, 2021.
