Even though it’s not officially announced, we are inching closer and closer to production on the Marvel Studios film, “Black Widow.” The Scarlett Johansson-led film, obviously following the titular superspy/Avenger, already has a script written, a director attached, and is now rounding out its supporting cast with yet another high-profile hire.

THR is reporting that “Stranger Things” alum David Harbour is the latest actor to join the upcoming superhero film, following in the footsteps of the recently reported Florence Pugh. Since we’re talking about a major Marvel Studios film, plot details are non-existent and thus, we have no idea who Harbour might be playing in the film. All we know is that Black Widow will be involved and it’ll likely explore her more deadly side-job as a skilled spy and assassin.

Harbour is on the verge of the release of his first comic book film, “Hellboy,” where he tackles the titular role that used to be occupied by actor Ron Perlman. As mentioned, he’s probably best known as playing Hopper in the hugely successful sci-fi/horror series on Netflix, “Stranger Things.” But it appears now he’s the latest big name to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cate Shortland has been hired to direct “Black Widow,” based on a script from Jac Schaeffer. The film is said to begin production in London in June, and is widely expected to be the first film to follow “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in whatever Marvel Studios calls the next “phase” of its cinematic universe.
Official announcements are expected to happen after the release of “Avengers: Endgame” later this month, and could be coming this summer at San Diego Comic-Con. But at this point, that’s all speculation, as Marvel Studios will do whatever Marvel Studios wants to do.
