One of the unexpected joys that have come to film fans during the pandemic is the launch of David Lynch Theater on YouTube. The enigmatic filmmaker has taken to becoming a bonafide social media star thanks to his interesting mix of unreleased shorts, daily weather updates, and general discussions, all in compact video morsels. And in his most recent video, he takes time to shout out the USPS, which finds itself in the middle of a war with the White House, with the fate of the upcoming Presidential Election hanging in the balance.
While giving his weather update today, Lynch decided to talk about something he’s thinking about today, and that’s when he mentions the Postal Service.
“Today, I’m thinking about the postal workers and how much we need and appreciate them,” said Lynch in the video.
As mentioned, the USPS is making headlines over the past couple of weeks as the Trump administration has seemingly used budget cuts and new protocols as a means to delay the postal delivery system and throw into question the idea of voting by mail in November. This would normally fall under the umbrella of a theory or, worse, a conspiracy theory, but the President seemingly confirmed this was his plan recently with the media.
So, as Lynch says in his video, it’s time to appreciate the USPS and do what we can to make sure the Postal Service, which is a vital part of our country, not just for election purposes but also for medication delivery, communication, and life in general, is properly funded and operated in a way that allows for people to not risk their lives to exercise their right to vote in the fall.

Sure, Lynch doesn’t go into detail and announce a special protest or anything, but we’ve reached a point where even filmmakers have to interrupt what they’re doing to at least encourage people to respect those that spend their days delivering mail, something that US citizens have taken for granted for decades and is now in peril.
