'Decision To Leave': Watch The New Trailer & The First 2 Clips From Park Chan-Wook's Cannes Romantic Murder Mystery

South Korean director Park Chan-wook is set to premiere his new film, “Decision to Leave,” at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. A detective murder mystery with a romantic twist, the film is widely regarded as one of the most anticipated premieres of the festival.

Park Chan-wook is best known for his movies such as “Oldboy (2003), The Handmaiden (2016),” and “Thirst (2009).” With over 13 features under his directing belt, as well as a series (“The Little Drummer Girl”), the filmmaker is arguably making his best work right now.

Produced by Moho Films (“Sympathy for Lady Vengeance,” “Thirst,” “The Handmaiden” and “Snowpiercer”) and presented by CJ ENM (“Parasite”), the movie is influenced by the crime genre, following with themes of mystery, drama, romance, and thriller elements.

The official synopsis is as follows:

A man falls from a mountain peak to his death. The detective in charge of the investigation, Hae-joon, comes to meet the dead man’s wife Seo-rae. When she becomes a suspect, Hae-joon finds himself slowly developing an interest in her.

Park was previously at Cannes with Grand Prix winner “Oldboy” (2003), “Thirst” (2009), and “The Handmaiden” (2016), which all world premiered at the festival. Park was also put on the map internationally with “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” (2005), “Stoker” (2013, starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska),” and his aforementioned acclaimed TV series “The Little Drummer Girl (2018).”

“Decision to Leave” will be released theatrically in the U.S. and the UK in Fall 2022, but an exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The film stars Tang Wei, known for her roles in “Lust, Caution” and “Blackhat.” Joining her will be Park Hae-il, known for his roles in “The Host” and “Memories of Murder.” “Decision to Leave” will also star Go Kyung-Pro, Lee Jung-Hyun, and Yong-woo Park. Check out the new trailer below.
