Denzel Washington Eyes Lead In 'Nightcrawler' Director Dan Gilroy's 'Inner City'

While his brother Tony Gilroy has grabbed headlines as the writer/director of “Michael Clayton” and as the longtime scribe of the ‘Jason Bourne‘ series, not to mention his high-profile role stepping in to save “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Dan Gilroy made everyone sit up and pay attention with “Nightcrawler.” The crackling, darkly funny thriller was not only whip-smart and hugely entertaining, but it gave Jake Gyllenhaal one of the best roles of his career. So it’s not a big surprise that Gilroy has attracted one of the biggest A-list names in Hollywood to lead his next movie.

Variety reports that Denzel Washington will star in Gilroy’s “Inner City.” The movie sounds like another look at Los Angeles’ seamier side, with the movie centering around an ambulance chasing lawyer who takes over a business when his boss falls sick, but who only manages to mess everything up. Yep, I’m sold, and here’s hoping Washington signs on the dotted line to star.

Indeed, Hollywood is likely hoping for the same, as the script is apparently tracking serious interest around town, including from Netflix.
