'Devs' Trailer: Alex Garland Directs FX’s High-Tech Sci-Fi Thriller With Nick Offerman, Sonoya Mizuna & More

When it comes to sci-fi films and technology, Alex Garland is no stranger to the topic, especially in his films. Now he is taking on TV with his brand new series, “Devs.”  After the critical success of the films “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation,” Garland has written and directed all eight episodes of what is one of our most-anticipated shows of 2020.

Speaking to Fandango, Garland gave a glimpse of what to expect from his latest show. “This is slightly more in common with projects I’ve worked on like ‘Ex Machina’ or ‘Never Let Me Go,’ which are taking something about our world now — not our world in the future, but our world as it is right now — and then drawing sort of inferences and conclusions from it.

The show will be based around the idea of technology and hacking, considering the plot is about a computer engineer trying to find out the secrets of the company she works for (known as the “cutting-edge tech company” Amaya) as to why her boyfriend suddenly disappeared. Garland spoke of this before the release of ‘Annihilation,’ saying, “It’s a sort of science fiction, but it’s a much more technology-based sci-fi whereas ‘Annihilation’ is a more hallucinogenic form of sci-fi and more fantastical form of sci-fi.”
