'Red One': Dwayne Johnson Is Teaming Up With 'Fast & Furious' Writer Chris Morgan For A New Christmas Film

When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson isn’t flexing his muscles and punching bad guys in his action films, he’s no stranger to the occasional children’s feature. And it appears the action star is ready to bring his brand of action-comedy to Christmas in the new film, “Red One.”

According to THR, Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with the writer behind the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, Chris Morgan, to work on a new holiday-themed film, “Red One.” While plot details are unknown, the film is described as a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.” That sounds about right when you consider The Rock is starring in the film.

“Hold my Mana, because this is exciting,” said Johnson. “Our Seven Bucks is very bullish on our partnership with Amazon Studios; underpinned with some innovation, some pioneering and a lot of positive energy and passion. I’ve been very impressed with Jen Salke and her team’s vision and ambition to create an enormous, fun, and unique ‘Red One’ holiday universe for families around the world to enjoy.”

Again, the film is being written by Chris Morgan, who is probably best known for being one of the masterminds behind the “Fast” franchise. He’s the screenwriter responsible for the films that helped redefine the “Fast and Furious” universe, beginning with ‘Tokyo Drift’ and writing every feature through “The Fate of the Furious” and even the spinoff “Hobbs & Shaw.” He’s not listed amongst the writers for the recently-released “F9,” however.

“Red One” is already set up at Amazon Studios, though it’s unclear if the film will get a theatrical release or if it’ll be a streaming exclusive. One thing is for sure, however—Amazon is looking at franchise potential with this feature. Not only that, the studio mentioned the possibility of the film leading towards expansions in “multiple industries and businesses.” Take that for what it’s worth.

No release date has been set for “Red One,” though the search is now on for a director to helm the picture.
