Did you go see "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island"? No? Well, guess what, it doesn't matter because a whole lot of people overseas went to go see it, helping the movie bring in over $270 million worldwide. Only a couple of days ago it was confirmed that a three-quel was in the works, and it looks like the producers want to keep their secret ingredients of Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson in the mix.
The Wrap reports that The Rock is in talks to reprise his role in the next movie, while the script from writers Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn (hired back after penning number two) will include Hutcherson's character, implying that he will be back as well. Both Johnson and Hutcherson are becoming franchise veterans, with the former helping to reinvigorate the 'Fast & Furious' series and hoping to do the same with "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" this summer, while the latter is gonna make all the girls cry in "The Hunger Games" movies (the second entry already has a release date set for 2013).
No word yet on how Brendan Fraser feels about all this, but let's just hope Michael Caine doesn't degrade himself further by coming back as well. "Journey 3" is being prepped for a 2014 release.
