Remember when we said yesterday that monsters were going to make a comeback on the big screen? Well, we weren't kidding around. Another creature oriented movie is in the works with a guy who knows his way around kicking ass and CGI effects.
Dwayne Johnson is now set to star in "The Monster Hunter's Survival Guide." Based on a comic book series, it's now going to spin a live action movie out of the instructional style source material about how to dispatch a variety of creatures including the undead, cryptids, giant monsters, unnatural beasts and fantasy creatures. And helping to bring this all together is one man who is no stranger to fare like this: Simon Kinberg. The writer behind "Sherlock Holmes" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" (and the forthcoming "X-Men: First Class" sequel) and the producer of "Jumper" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" will be shepherding the project under his appropriately named Genre Films shingle.
Still early days on this one as it needs a writer and director still. As for Johnson, it's another obvious and safe choice, but we wish Hollywood would take more chances with the guy. They can start by getting that Charley Pride biopic moving already. [Deadline]
