Eddie Murphy dished to Extra about leaving the movie industry for good after the release of his latest film “Meet Dave” is released on July 11th.
Awwww.
Perhaps aware his career has been sullied beyond repair and painfully cognizant of the fact that release time of an Eddie Murphy movie is a joyous time for comedians who like to skewer bigger fish with relative ease, the actor told the TV rag: “I have close to fifty movies and its like why am I in the movies?” How will Eddie be staying busy? “I’ll go back to stage and do standup”.
Back to stage? As in the theater where he cut his teeth doing Hamlet? Really? Considering the easy, walk-in-the-park paychecks he takes, could he even muster the energy to recapture the “Eddie Murhpy: Raw” glory days?
The burning question on every one’s mind (naturally) is what will happen to “Beverly Hills Cop 4”??? Well, Eddie says, don’t hold your breath. “The movie wasn’t ready to be done.” Smart move, you don’t want to go ruining the legacy of the Beverly Hills Cop series by cavalierly making sequels now would you? Come on, Eddie don’t let one decade and a half ruin an entire career! Please reconsider? Director Brett Ratner will be crushed.
Oh, and speaking of Ratner, someone ought to tell him Murphy’s imminent retirement plans, btw. He’s going around telling anyone that will listen that the BV4 won’t be PG! It’s be edgier! Guess what? It won’t have a star either Brett.
