Eight Short Documentaries Make The AMPAS Shortlist

Every year around this time, a whole bunch of Academy shortlists are announced pertaining to a whole bunch of films most of us have never heard of mainly of the “short” filmmaking variety, mostly because the “short” categories receive far less attention than the feature length categories. I barely ever pay much attention to these categories myself but, in 2008, I plan to change that. AMPAS released the shortlist below, highlight eight potential candidates of which only five will be nominated for Best Documentary Short come the 22nd of January.

“The Conscience of Nhem En,” by Steven Okazaki
“David McCullough: Painting with Words,” by Mark Herzog
Downstream,” by Leslie Iwerks
“The Final Inch,” Irene Taylor Brodsky
Smile Pinki,” by Megan Mylan
Tongzhi in Love,” by Ruby Yang
“Viva La Causa,” by Bill Brummel and Alonso Filomeno Mayo
“The Witness from the Balcony of Room 306,” by Adam Pertofsky
