One shot. It’s all anyone can ask for. Not to mention that it doesn’t always fall into someone’s lap. But when it does, giving it everything you’ve got is the ideal response. One avenue in the music business for that one shot is the Eurovision Song Contest. Musical artists such as ABBA and Celine Dion parlayed their success in the historic competition into worldwide acclaim. Now, it’s a fictional pair from Iceland’s turn to step up to the mics and go balls to the wall in “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”
Director David Dobkin is one name that suggests laughs will be plentiful in the project. He helmed the martial arts comedy “Shanghai Knights” and the extremely popular romp “Wedding Crashers.” Also on board as a producer is Chris Henchy, co-writer on “The Other Guys” with Adam McKay.

Playing the Scandinavian songbirds are Will Ferrell—sharing screenwriting credit with Andrew Steele and a producer himself—and Rachel McAdams (who starred in “Wedding Crashers” too). Ferrell serenading guests at the Catalina Wine Mixer with his booming rendition of “Por Ti Volare” in “Step Brothers” has set a high bar for the actor to top. It will also be interesting to see McAdams build upon her brief performance of “Semi-Charmed Life” in “Game Night.” Like their characters—however—here’s their chance. Also in the cast are Pierce Brosnan,—no comment on either “Mamma Mia!”—Demi Lovato and Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey” & “Legion”).
