Following the moderate success of their remakes of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Amityville Horror,” “The Hitcher” and “Friday the 13th”, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company have debuted the trailer for “Generic CW-Cast Horror Remake #248” “A Nightmare On Elm Street” on Myspace.
The horror film, directed by music video helmer Samuel Bayer (who broke through with the video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit”), stars Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen”) in the iconic role of Freddy Krueger, and a roll-call of disposable teen stars. Judging from the trailer, it’s got a similar glossy look to the other Platinum Dunes pictures, and is taking several shots and sequences directly from the original. As promised, it’s darker than the campy tone of most of the earlier films in the franchise, which can only be a good thing, but it’s still pretty hard to feel anything but indifferent about this one so far, despite the presence of comeback kid Haley.
