"Friend From Work" Line From 'Thor' Has A Touching Origin Story

I haven’t watched the new trailer for “Thor: Ragnarok” yet because the excellent first teaser is all I need. It sets up the story, establishes the wild vision of director Taika Waititi, and has what is already one of the most iconic lines in Marvel history, with Thor happily exclaiming upon seeing a very, very angry Hulk: “He’s a friend from work!” It’s a terrific joke, but you’ll be surprised to learn that its origins didn’t come from any improvisation on the set.

In an interview with EW, Chris Hemsworth revealed that the hilarious line didn’t come from the script or from anybody set, but instead had a rather more touching origin.

“We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day,” he said. “He goes, ‘You know, you should say, “He’s a friend from work!”‘”

Aw geez, if that doesn’t make you feel all warm inside, I don’t know what will. That’s a pretty lovely little anecdote, so keep that in your back pocket and get ready for “Thor: Ragnarok” when it opens on November 3rd.

Update: New international poster has arrived.
