Gia Coppola Directs Short Film For Fashion Designer Zac Posen Featuring The Like

Gia Coppola continues to make small strides into the family business as another fashion oriented short has hit the web by the budding filmmaker.

In February, Coppola’s first short “Non Plus One” co-directed along with Tracy Antonopoulos, and starring her cousin Jason Schwartzman and Kirsten Dunst hit the web. Created to celebrate the launch of fashion label Opening Ceremony’s spring line (and consequently featuring the actors wearing the clothing) that short displayed Coppola’s affection for Jean-Luc Godard’s New Wave films, a trait that carries over here.

In her latest short used to promote fashion design Zac Posen’s upcoming line at Target, all-girl band The Like are shown getting ready before a show romping around their hotel room, and then later performing, in his latest creations. Coppola again shows an affinity for yesteryear with ’50s haircuts, typewriters and portable radios peppering the set. The black-and-white pre-gig section gives way to a full blown color music video which is another showcase for the Posen’s fashions.

While not as immediately endearing as “Non Plus One” (really, once The Like actually start playing it becomes kind of boring) Coppola does show a solid eye behind, and the roaming camera, backstage stuff is well handled. The family’s keen eye imagery seems to be in the blood and we’re starting to wonder when Gia will make the leap into feature films. For now, these shorts will suffice.
