Golden Globe Winners: '12 Years A Slave' Wins Best Drama, But 'American Hustle' Dominates With 3 Top Prizes

American Hustle

Well, that’s a wrap. “12 Years a Slave” won Best Drama, but “American Hustle” took three of the top prizes including Best Comedy/Musical, Best Actress Comedy/Musical and Best Supporting Actress.  Probably the biggest surprise of the night, though not a shock if you’ve been reading the tea leaves of late, Matthew McConaughey scoring the Best Actor (Drama) prize for “Dallas Buyers Club” over Robert RedfordChiwetel Ejiofor and that crowded field.  More analysis tomorrow and in the meantime, check out to see how we did with our Globes predictions.

Earlier: Well, ready or not , here we go on awards season kickoff 2013-2014. Sure, there’s been the critics groups and the guild awards, but the Golden Globes are the first time we get to see all those stars gussied up, well sauced, and gushing over golden statuettes. While the HFPA ain’t exactly the Academy, they sure do throw a good party, and invite some great hosts to boot. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back for a second time, after their widely praised hosting performance last year (anything beats Seth McFarlane, amiright?).

The nominees this year are a fairly solid, straight down the middle bunch, no wild out-of-left-field choices, except for maybe “Rush,” which hasn’t seemed to gain much traction thus far, but let’s be honest, it’s no “The Tourist.” Also, Kate Winslet‘s nomination for “Labor Day” seems to be the “Celebrity We Want At Our Party” nomination, which, let’s face it, it wouldn’t be a Globes without that specific award.

We will be live-tweeting over at @ThePlaylist, so follow us there for admittedly easy snark, fashion commentary, and tallies of blatant drunkenness. We’ll also be updating the winners live during the show right here, so keep checking back. We swear it will be just like watching the Globes with your sassy, wine-swilling BFF.  Full nominations are below and btw, if you missed them our full Golden Globe predictions are here.
