'Halftime' Trailer: New Jennifer Lopez Doc Charts The Rise And Rise Of J.LO & Debuts At Tribeca Film Fest

The mere appearance of Jennifer Lopez at the 2021 inauguration of President Joe Biden affirmed her primacy in the interlocked realms of fashion, music, and cultural influence. Her proclamation a few moments later, “Una nación, bajo Dios, indivisible, con libertad y justicia para todos!” cemented her status as a beacon to a Latino community in America who had been subjected to demonization by the racially charged dogma of the previous administration. In the Netflix documentary “Halftime,” J.Lo has a further proclamation; “It’s just the beginning.”

Poised to debut on the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival, “Halftime” is directed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Amanda Micheli, whose notable credits include “La Corona” and “Double Dare.” Micheli’s latest will chart the eminent life and career that preceded that symbolic afternoon in January 2021 and ponder what is next for the actress and singer whose star appears to be burning brighter than ever.

“Halftime” follows Lopez’s recently heightened screen presence thanks to the relative success of this year’s “Marry Me,” as well as “The Mother” and “Shotgun Wedding” both being scheduled for release, the latter on Amazon Prime Video, later in 2022.

Here’s the official synopsis for the documentary;

“HALFTIME” offers an intimate peek behind the curtain revealing the grit and determination that makes Jennifer Lopez the icon she is, from her performances onscreen and on stages around the world, to her Super Bowl Halftime show, to the recent Presidential inauguration.  The documentary focuses on an international superstar who has inspired people for decades with her perseverance, creative brilliance and cultural contributions.  And it’s only the beginning.  “HALFTIME” serves as the kickoff to the second half of Lopez’s life, as she lays bare her evolution as a Latina, a mother, and an artist, taking agency in her career and using her voice for a greater purpose.

Following its debut at Tribeca on June 8, “HALFTIME” will be released globally on Netflix on June 14. Watch the trailer below.
