'Moonfall': Halle Berry & Josh Gad Are Earth's Last Hope In Roland Emmerich's Upcoming Disaster Film

When you think of films that feature a group of oddballs and misfits sent out to space to save the world from impending doom, the first film that probably comes to mind is “Armageddon.” But that film only featured a meteor that was expected to strike Earth. And let’s be real, in 2020, that shit is boring. Do you know what’s cooler? The Moon coming to kill Earth, such as in the upcoming film, aptly titled “Moonfall.”

And according to Lionsgate, Roland Emmerich is set to return as the filmmaker behind “Moonfall,” which will star Halle Berry and Josh Gad. The film, as described above, follows a similar story to “Armageddon,” as a group of ragtag people is sent into space as a last-ditch attempt to stop the Moon from hurtling towards Earth, threatening to end life as we know it. And yes, that team includes Berry and Gad.

Berry and Gad are the only cast members to be announced as of now. As mentioned, “Moonfall” is written and directed by Emmerich. The filmmaker is known for bringing big-budget spectacle to theaters for decades now with films such as “The Patriot,” “Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” and “2012.” Most recently, he released the period war film, “Midway.”

“Moonfall” doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but is expected to arrive in theaters in 2021.

Here’s the synopsis for the new film:

In Moonfall, a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface and save our planet from annihilation.
