'Halloween' Director David Gordon Green To Helm A Disney+ Film About The Origins & Creation Of Disneyland

David Gordon Green has always been one of the most eclectic, hard-to-pin-down directors we have. Staying true to form, Green is now heading from horror to family films; the “Halloween” filmmaker is ready to take a dip in the Disney pool for his next movie.

According to Deadline, Green, who is prepping the release of “Halloween Kills” this week (read our review here), as well as the forthcoming “Halloween Ends” in 2022, is set to direct a new Disney+ feature about the true story of Walt Disney building Disneyland in the ’50s. It’s unclear what the structure of the film might be, but it should take place in the late-’40s to mid-’50s, from when Disney had the idea to build a theme park based around Mickey Mouse and his other creations to when the doors first opened in 1955, creating “The Happiest Place on Earth.”

Green initially started in the world of poetic indies and then shifted to comedies, such as “Pineapple Express,” but has transitioned into the world of horror since the 2018 release of his “Halloween” reboot. Since then, he’s worked on two more Michael Myers films, as well as a variety of other projects, including a recently-announced “Hellraiser” series and a new “Exorcist” trilogy. Perhaps after that much horror, Green knows he will need a hard family-friendly palate cleanser afterward.

The new Disney+ film will be written by Mouse House film veteran Evan Spiliotopoulos (“Snow White and the Huntsmen”). Previously, he worked on features such as the live-action “Beauty and the Beast” remake, “The Jungle Book 2,” “Pooh’s Heffalump Movie,” and “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure.” Judging by those films and the fact that this is headed to Disney+ makes it quite clear that Green’s film isn’t going to be a hard-hitting expose into the life of Walt Disney while he created Disneyland.

There’s no release date set for the untitled Disneyland film. [Deadline]
