The report claims that Bonhôte will helm the biopic about the rock singer, Marianne Faithfull, with Boynton onboard to play the lead role. Bonhôte is probably best known for co-directing the acclaimed documentary “McQueen.” Previous to that, the filmmaker helmed the project “Alleycats” in 2016.

“The film will explore female-led issues as well as the injustices [Faithfull] suffered in her quest to be recognized as an artist,” said the director.

The singer herself seems to be supportive of this biopic. Faithfull said, “I am delighted that my story is finally being made.”

Boynton is coming off a role in the massive rock biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” where she starred opposite Rami Malek. However, for “Faithfull,” it appears that the young actress will finally get the chance to have the spotlight on her, as she brings to life one of the most interesting careers in all of music.

To describe Marianne Faithfull’s career as tumultuous is an understatement. The singer’s rise to stardom was quick, as she released the hit song “As Tears Go By” in the mid-‘60s, after being discovered while attending a party thrown by the Rolling Stones. After a string of hits and a relationship with Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, Faithfull fell on hard times in the ‘70s, dealing with an eating disorder and heroin addiction, leaving her homeless. She was able to overcome those setbacks and release another hit song by the end of the decade, leading to a career resurgence and legendary status.

“Faithfull” follows in the footsteps of the aforementioned ‘Rhapsody’ and last year’s “Rocketman.” The film is also joining the ranks of a number of new rock biopics that include films about folks such as David Bowie, Boy George, Michael Jackson, and others.

No release date has been announced for “Faithfull.”
